To be totally honest the fandom is chill/fun if you hang out on places not populated by 14 year olds on Tumblr. Even on Tumblr you can choose not to be around people who troll and harass others very easily.

The show has some neat messages and ongoing mysteries to pick up on so that's what ordinary fans get excited about.

I don't think you were ever going to be open to hearing things you don't want to hear, but pretty much on Tumblr if this very same conversation was taking place I'd just block you and that'd be the end of the conversation.

To be fair to anybody who has suffered severe harassment, I feel bad for them of course. I know these things can happen especially to popular artists who draw in a big audience, large enough for the rare shit-starter to show up. However I don't blame that as an issue with any fandom, but instead an issue with shitty purity culture kids who are only just a small amount of users on tumblr.

Well, yes, I'm not a harasser who'd create a new account to harass you, nor do I've hundreds of followers willing to harass other people for me, so we would never talk again and I'd be okay with that.

But that doesn't change that SU fandom is one of those fandoms where that's common enough that anyone who isn't a NNF can get hit by it. Not all fandoms are like that tho, despite shitty purity culture (which doesn't involved just kids fyi).

People conflate the zamii thing with the entire fandom, which is just... inaccurate. Zamii had a dedicated hatedom before joining SU fandom - not saying that's okay at all, but it's not like the entire fandom jumped her.

SU fandom has a lot more abuse wank and minority representation wank, but it doesn’t attract the monarchists, it doesn’t attract the harem fans, it doesn’t attract the furries, it doesn’t attract the religious freaks, and for some reason, it doesn’t attract much Spacebattles.com. It’s got less of the pedophiles, too, though they do exist.

Yeah "minority wank" and "abuse wank" and OH NO the furries.

Meanwhile purity wankers viciously go after people who do fan art , fan fic or headcanoning "wrong" and will go and tell people -including minors to kill themselves , and that they're disguisting - demanding people who cope ship to tell everyone what their trauma is and have it "graded" by vicious bullies. and tell survivors who disagree that supporting fictional people kissing makes them as bad as their abuser. I've heard of these types making servers where they show minor antis-in-training actual nsfw to tell them why its bad, doxxing minors and kids in fucking high school because they "don't deserve to feel safe" (actual words they said)

That's all the purity folks do, No harm right? Not nearly as bad as those others right?

Adults can avoid them if they know what to do. Kids, are well, kids. Purity culture folks lurk in all fandoms though, even the fucking slash ones but then it's mostly sending death threats about shipping the wrong characters together. If you're acting like it's possible for a fandom to be completely free of bad people, then lmao.

i'm not acting like its possible. I feel like OP is minimizing the damage potential of anti behavior to prove their fandom's wank isn't nearly as bad as others. Cause I see that attitude all the fucking time.

That antis are harmful not just to adult content creators but kids who often end up believing it when they're told "you're an awful person supporting actual pedophilia" and are more likely to succumb to anti suicide baiting or possibly be MORE in danger if antis doxx them.

Unfortunately suicide-baiting and other harmful tactics are common tactics spread across all fandoms now days in this hell age. No fandom is safe. That's why blaming Steven Universe as a uniquely horrible fandom (it's honestly not) for a minority of asshole who appear in every fandom paints an inaccurate picture of the internet.

It's not just suicide baiting that antis do either. They spread their falsely biased accusations all over the fandom, and contribute to alarm fatigue regarding pedophilia which is bad for victims and helps actual predators, in their servers they groom minors to be antis, showing them nsfw stuff to tell them why it's wrong. There's a LOT of harm antis do beyond just suicide baiting.

Nah, some fandoms are not even half as bad. In popular fandoms is where the issue is. That's why changing one popular fandom for another popular one and pretending the new one is ~so much better~ is nonsense.
