Most Asian restaurants here in San Antonio are disappointing. I keep trying new ones because I love Asian food. But so far I've only found one semi-good Thai place and one place that does good Pho and nothing else good.

Right? I was there last winter and thought the choices were really limited for a city its size. Even the best one I tried was just okay.

Good honey bbq pork. I can't remember what else I had, though.

I realize this is a basic suggestion, so I apologize in advance if so, but: have you tried using Yelp to look? I just cruised through it really quickly and there's a very small handful of places that look decent, particularly a couple Sichuanese places that look legitimately righteous.

Have you tried the one near the Santikos Embassy 14? We went there for my birthday and the green curry was surprisingly good. Not as good as I used to get in Chicago, but more than passable.

(Sadly, no mee krob / mi krop.)

I have much impotent and pointless anger about it in hindsight but the moment I discovered that my favorite Japanese restaurant turned "Asian" (the sign has since changed, it now says Asian-Chinese-Sushi) was a huge, sad disappointment.

I ordered katsudon, not that I can't make it at home but it's so messy to self-cook and I love me some good donburi. Should be a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet over plain white rice, right? No, I got a bowl of chicken-fried rice with an unbreaded boiled pork loin slice.

I sad.

Seems a few Asian fusion places are guilty. I got the hibachi style lunch with teriyaki salmon from a place once... it was a sad Atlantic salmon filet with watery brownish glaze. I ate the salmon anyway while removing as much of the teriyaki "sauce" as I could.

Burnt pasta is an experience I never want to repeat.
Cooking over a fire and the billy can handle came off and it took me a while to fish it out with sticks.

at one work get-together we rented out a nice outdoor food place and the set up sounded so NICE. barbeque, grille chickens, salad bar, dessert.

and everything was just, plain, bad. the chicken skin soggy, the turkey breast undercooked, the steaks basically "well done". side dishes (aka fries) were ok. the salad bar was below mediocre (only joghurt dressing, no oil / vinegar to put stuff yourself).

but the worst was the dessert. 2 german / austrian style dishes which i LOVE and they were both so. so. so. bad.
