Also recommending tilapia as a good starter fish for a person who doesn't know if they like fish. Walleye is also a decent mild whitefish. If you see butterfish? Go for that butterfish. Mackerel also has a fairly mild, enjoyable taste, which is ironic given that it's the smelliest thing I've ever had the displeasure to cook and clean up after.
