I'm annoyed at the voice actors who don't mind having a gaggle of 14-year old girls follow them around the con. It's creepy and disrupts foot traffic.

I've become less tolerant of bad con behavior since turning 20 and actually, you know, having to interact with other adults in the real world. I think the problem is that these kids are so insulated within their own little groups they're not aware of how to act properly in the general population (especially when free from parental/adult supervision).

Depressingly I've noticed that some of the most scary obsessive fangirls are over 20, and sometimes even over 40.

Yeah, go to a literary sci-fi/fantasy con some time, there'll be lots of social rejects who are well into middle age. At least the anime kids I can tell myself will eventually grow out of it (even though I know a lot of them won't).

I picture a con being an entire convention center filled with overweight people with very poor hygiene dressed in homemade costumes who stand way too close to other people and talk way too loudly about Star Trek (or whatever fandom(s) they're obsessed with), completely oblivious to the fact that these other people don't share their obsessive interest. They are able to spend all of their income on fandom-related paraphernalia because they still live at home with their parents even though they're in their forties.

And they can't figure out why they can't get a girlfriend/boyfriend.

Well, if they're all at a convention then it's a safe bet they're all interested in more or less the same things. If the person they're talking to doesn't share their interest, there's 20 others that probably will. That's kind of the point of a convention. Of course, there's always plenty of people who will corner you and talk at you for 2 hours about The Hulk or all the fanfic awards they've won but they're not all like that.
Also, there's plenty of people getting laid at those things. Especially the non-anime cons where the attendees are somewhat older. They may not be people you'd ever want to picture having sex, but they're having it all right.

My theory on that is because Mad Men is not inherently shippable -- the couples are already pretty established and there's a distinctive lack of UST.

I totally agree with you -- I hate that fandom is always about shipping. No-one can convince me otherwise.

Pete and Peggy are a guilty pleasure, but if they really got together it would be the height of dysfunction . . . not that the rest of the couples are healthy ;)

I agree. Woe. Did it not rule, though, that out of everyone, Sal was the most interested in Jackie Kennedy's televised tour of the White House, and the decor, etc? *snicker* Love him!

Poor Sal. I wish he could just be happy and gay, but this is the 1960s. XP I definitely hope he gets more character development this season. The scene with him and the other man in the restaurant in season one was one of the favorites.
