What fandoms have the best drama?

I'd never get involved in a billion years, but the Sherlock fandom is so popcorn worthy...especially the part of fandom who thought Johnlock was endgame or that the fourth season had a secret episode that somehow makes season 4 not suck.

I shipped both Johnlock and Sherlolly, but hung out on the fringes because I wasn't about to dip my toes into that kind of crazy. The Johnlock conspiracy theorists who were convinced there was a secret ending for season four were incredibly amusing.

The secret episode theory is hilarious. I love how some Sherlock fans are so deep in denial over how much that season sucks that they made up some miraculous episode that would fix everything.

I'm so glad I noped out of the whole thing after season 2 -- which already sucked pretty hard, so I don't even want to know how they managed to get even worse.

I don't think simply thinking Johnlock might be endgame was completely insane, but the secret episode thing was just jaw-droppingly nuts, and this is coming from someone who has been in fandom a long time. The part where the secret episode would undo everything from the third episode, or the whole season... I mean, if the showrunners wanted to tell a different story than the one they told, they would have just told THAT story instead. Yeah, TV shows have done the ~*it was all a dream*~ thing often enough, but not in the form of a secret extra episode that no regular viewers would have known to tune in for.

Depends on how you define best. Tolkien fandom drama is usually enjoyable. Buffy drama is hilarious.

If you mean by best the most intense, Star Wars hands down.

It's not a fandom per se, but I think exchange culture is the best for drama because it doesn't matter. It's not connected to real-world issues like racism or sexism or doxxing. It's just petty bickering and nitpicking, and it's pretty reliable.

Obviously it's a whole lot quieter than it once was, but I recently found a few blogs about One Direction fans who still believe that... what were their names again... Harry and Louis? Are secretly banging, the marriages are fake, the (I think he's three or four years old now?) child is fake, and any day now the charade will end and they will be together-!
It's both creepy and, from a safe distance, quite funny.

Larries, yes! Completely in-fucking-sane.

My little sister has a friend who still believes that shit. Nice kid, but I do kinda side-eye her a little for being so, uh, passionate about something so batshit.

Star Wars, Harry Potter was RIDICULOUS back in it's heyday (and would've produced Star Wars grade drama today if it had the same social media presence), every damn superhero franchise has insane drama, there's doll fandom drama (American Girl and those reborn dolls, for example), Hetalia fandom was nuts (I wasn't into it but there was post after post about here in FS alone), Dream Daddies, Disney princess fandom, you name it!

Re: What fandoms have the best drama?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hetalia fandom was really something else. What usually happens in doll fandom drama?

Re: What fandoms have the best drama?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Someone here was just talking about doll fandom drama the other day, they said American Girl has a lot of "purists" who are only into certain early dolls and that the really elaborate ball-jointed doll fandom drama had a lot of "You don't do it my way therefore it's WRONG and you're BAD!"

Re: What fandoms have the best drama?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. I like the look of ball-jointed dolls, but I didn't know the fandom was like that. :/

It's not all bad, like any other fandom there are considerable pockets of sanity and fun. But it can get stupid pretty quick.

"Just gals being pals!"

From my experience, it's a threeway tie between Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock. At least, it used to. Not sure about now.

Reylo drama is currently my favorite. Between the fans insisting that Kylo and Rey are gonna have babies and the ones comparing the Force Bond to actual rape, I just can't.

re: Force Bond

wait what

I need an explanation here

The Force connects all living things, it is the energy in everything (or am I misunderstanding the Force?)

Re: What fandoms have the best drama?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently, when Rey and Kylo connected with each other via the Force, it was just like rape, doncha know, because it was unwanted. Same goes for Kylo accessing Rey's memories.

ayrt

I mean...in TFA when he attempts to control/break into her mind, I'd call that an attempted violation...But by the nature of the Force, you are bound to be connected/feel all the other people/things linked to the Force, and as for the Bond...ugh.

I think people keep throwing that word around. I feel the word violation fits better, since there are many kinds of violations (rape is one of them, of a sexual nature, so I wouldn't characterize mind control as a sexual violation, but it still would be a violation, like Snope and Hux)...buut then, what would they call all the mind control the Jedi did? Hell, what about in HP, with leglimens? There are so many words in the English language. I'm sure one can be found to describe this properly.

Doctor Who.

The drama is just, so, like... thorough. It's deep, and mellow, like a well-aged wine.
