I'm with you on Loki and Heimdall. IMO they handled both of their deaths (particularly Loki) in such a terrible, badly written way that I can't join the bandwagon and say it's a 'great' film. Had great moments, certainly. I also had no sympathy for Thanos. As a villain, he was fine. Again, I didn't think he was the amazing villain everyone is saying he was.

This secret is reminding me the issues I had with this film in general (including the humour, which didn't work for me most of the time with the dark tone, the fact that the pacing was all over the place and that the villain had such a stupid idea that was easily fixed by adding more resources, not less people. I understand he was an extremist, but didn't make his idea any less dumb and therefore him look less intimidating).
It's lonely out here, seeming to be the only one who didn't think Infinity War wasn't a masterpiece, or even wasn't particularly good.

You're not alone. There were some great moments, but overall I was disappointed.

What gets me most about how stupid his idea was is that it wasn't that long ago that Earth's population was half what it is now. And after killing off half the population, it won't take long for it to go right back to where it was. So his idea doesn't even accomplish what he wants it to. It's so stupid I can't believe anyone would base anything on it. And it annoys me to no end.

If it helps in the comics his main motivation for killing half the population is so he can attract/seduce Death.

I don't think that explanation makes him at all sympathetic, but at least it actually makes some sense. I could see it as a lot less stupid plan with that for the goal than for his stated goal in the movies. Now I'm kinda annoyed they changed it and expected the stated goal to work as a rational motive.

Thanks for the background info!

Yeah, he's not sympathetic, but at least Squirrel Girl can beat him. Also at the end of the day Lady Death marries Deadpool and has no interest in Thanos so...did not work out for him the way he hoped.

You're welcome!

Overall I really loved it, it's a great film but I have my reservations and I feel like I can't say much of them without being accused of being a bitter Loki fan. I mean I AM a little bitter tbh, though I knew he was the obvious choice for an early death because logically there wasn't much room for him. Same with Heimdall. But the opening scene just felt too much like trying to get rid of them "because" and I already feel like the Thor films are the ugly stepsister of the MCU so to have the good feeling at the end of Ragnarok and then immediately get it taken away in the first five minutes of the next film...yes of course I'm a little upset! Plus Loki's death was so...unreasonably graphic? The only other points where I felt like it was pushing it a bit far for this kind of film were Nebula's torture and Vision dying brutally twice in a couple of minutes.

I think I would hold off truly calling IW a masterpiece personally because it's part one of a two part story. Until I know the full picture I'm in a sort of limbo right now.
