Weird tics, certain expressions/voices, and annoying repetitions in their mannerisms are why I can't watch pretty much any stand up comedians. I have yet to find one that doesn't annoy me deeply.

I play comedy on my phone while I'm doing other things, so I miss the physical mannerisms.

("Nanette" was the most gutted I've ever felt after listening to a standup comedian.)

I don't know the comedian or the material from the show but... isn't feeling gutted while listening to a comedian kind of... opposite of the point of listening to a comedian?

Yes, which was... sort of the point?

One of the things she says early on in the special is how conflicted (and tired) she is about self-deprecating humor.

I'm not sure if she states it outright, but there's a point, too, about how generally humans use humor to ease people's discomfort over difficult or painful topics, but perhaps we *shouldn't* become comfortable with such things (hate crimes, homophobia, rape, CSA).

Okay, but people using humour to cope with things has nothing to do with a stand-up comedian performing non-comedic things. Just... don't make jokes about those sort of things if you don't agree with it?

I'd honestly feel a little bait and switched if I went to watch a stand up and halfway through the show they started telling me everything that was depressing and wrong with the world.

The show was advertised as her departure from comedy when it was running, and a lot was written about it in Australian media, so I doubt anyone who attended felt wronged.

Also, I tend to feel that a comedian with no insight isn't worth my time. Good comedians work with difficult topics.

Never watched her properly, but I've seen gifsets, and her appearance is a trip for me because she looks a lot like a woman from one of the family vlogger channels I watch, Mabel's Moms, and I constantly have to remind myself they're different people

the facial expressions and tics could be because she has autism ....

I thought it was Johnny Depp at first.
