Trying to stay awake tonight to do basal testing of my insulin for diabetes (basically the insulin that has nothing to do with food, just...living), then catch up on missed sleep, chores and work Sat night. On Sunday my friend is having a bbq so hopefully that will be a relaxed afternoon.

Why do you have to stay awake to do the testing?

I do not have a constant glucose monitor so I need to manually ask my meter to test what my blood sugar is. I do have a machine that can roughly plot what my sugar did between one test and the other but it gets more vague the longer the gap is so it is best to just stay up and test each hour. If I went to sleep I wouldn't wake up for the alarms.

How often do you have to stay up to do that?

Once a month for me. At least. But I have 'brittle diabetes'. My diabetes laughs at the rulebook and does what it wants. Most type ones only have to do it every few months. I'm not a good example in that regard.

That sucks. :( Though I guess once a month could be worse.
