Man, there've been a lot of KotOR secrets recently. Comparatively. Not that I'm complaining.

111. Oh for fuck's sake. The movie won't even be out for over half a year, and already people are wanking over how it is 100% guaranteed to suck, based on one trailer and a handful of comments from actors and directors.

Yeah, it might suck. But I think for now I'd rather fangirl over how gorgeous the Mars scenes looked in the trailer, and how Rorschach's actor auditioned by making a tape of himself acting out scenes from the comic.

I have a feeling by the time it actually comes out, I will be so heartily sick of Watchmen elitists that I'll be tuning out every comment about it in fandom.

135. Thinking that a series is too bad to be worth my time based on dozens of reviews and excerpts =/= calling a bunch of children's fantasy books "satanistic."

158. I don't think "they're both pretty" is the main motivating factor for either of those ships. I think it's mostly "omg I love (Kakashi/Zuko) and desperately need someone I can project myself onto to pair him with!" At least, for the more shallow fans (i.e. the majority in any popular pairing). I think with the less shallow KakaIru fans it's more about a) having read a lot of complex fics for the pairing and gotten turned on that way b) giving Kakashi a "nurturing figure" c) giving Naruto a pair of mother/father figures. Not that I particularly care for any of those reasons myself. As for Zuko/Katara...I still am not entirely sure myself, but I think it mostly has to do with a Thing for opposites attracting, enemies becoming lovers, and symbolism.

...But maybe I'm just saying that because I don't think Zuko is even particularly pretty.

170. Reason number infinity I need to catch up on D.Gray-man. I love Komui beyond all reason, and his relationship with Rinali makes me bawwww every time. They need more fandom love.

Hee. I have a scar fetish too, I just find that it doesn't apply to burn scars--or at least Zuko's burn scar as it's drawn in Avatar.

Don't get me wrong, he's still probably my favorite character in Avatar. I just...don't find him particularly pretty. (His dorky expressions are absolute win, though.)

Yeah, pretty much. Thanks for being a non-shipper who still at least seems to get the principle. I'll admit, visually, they look good together (but visually, Aang and Katara look absolutely adorable together, so...), but it's more about potential complexity than the shallowness of it all.

Honestly, while I don't entirely get the lasting appeal of Zuko/Katara, I ship Jet/Zuko myself, so I can't really talk for crazy Avatar pairings. But then, aside from Sokka/Suki, I'm more interested in the gen interactions than the romance. So I don't get too worked up about that stuff anyway.

111. What is it about kickass complex comics and wanky elitist fans? Granted Alan Moore encourages the attitude in this case, but he's crazy. I thought everyone knew that. Oh well, I'll be over here enjoying the pretty that is the trailer.

I don't get overworked up (though there was a point where I really thought we had a snowball's chance in the Fire Nation of happening) so much either, it's just a ship I like, and I'm always a little disgusted to see the vehemence and mockery aimed at Zutarans, so it's just refreshing to see someone who's not taking that road.
And heck, I'm not even involved with the fandom outside of F!S, so I'm just glad I missed the worst of it.
I will agree, the simple gen interactions were so very well-done that it doesn't matter how hard I shipped it, it's impossible to feel disappointed by the results. Oh, Sokka/Suki, getting away with all that on a Nick kid's show. Goodness. ^_^


111. Heh, I have no idea, but the internet makes it worse. I feel like I've nearly gotten kicked out of fandom for actually prefering the movie to the comic of V for Vendetta. I'm fully prepared to like it.
Are there fans who don't know he's crazy? ...perhaps they should be pointed towards pics from his wedding...

WHile I don't agree with the bashing of Zutara, I think a lot of it comes from what happened early on in the fandom. Zutara is the larger population and I think around the beginning of the third season there was a backlash against some of the behaviors that happened earlier. I know there were references to Aang/Katara shippers as pedophiles, and everyone seemed to hate on Mai/Zuko, so to see some of the people who insulted their ship preference get turned on by canon may have seemed like sweet comeuppance to others.

I don't know it's all crazy to me, but I understood where the beginning of the backlash came from.

I'm afraid to get into Watchmen because I had only heard of it vaguely before the trailer, and based on the responses I've seen from people in this community, I'm fucking scared of enjoying the comic and joining whatever fandom there is.

The thing about Watchmen is that there's not really a fandom to speak of, except the overall comics fandom. Within the comic book fandom, though, Watchmen is somewhat of a sacred text. It's also one of the main reasons why comic books have slowly been becoming more respectable over the past 20 years.

Besides, you don't have to automatically join the fandom when you read the book.
