I am so glad someone said that. Because...well, come on! They went forty-five years because they automatically assumed people could tell fact from fiction. And not all of us are so dissatisfied that we wish for a fictional character to whisk us away in a time machine forever.

Exactly! I just...taking a TV show so seriously that you're disappointed the Doctor hasn't swooped you up and taken you on adventures? Really? That is taking things WAY too seriously. I'm glad people aren't so dissatisfied as the OP, lol.

I wonder if the OP is just projecting. She felt that way, so she assumes everyone does. And, ya know, I'm not gonna get on her case too much, because maybe she grew up in really shitty conditions (or is still in them now) and really, truly felt like she needed rescuing. I could be wrong, of course, but I think it's something to consider.

Oh, I have no doubt in my mind that it is definitely projection. And I do agree with you on the troubled background, but turning childhood problems (if that's indeed what that is) into hating Doctor Who for giving young girls hope frankly baffles me. I can understand it. I can. But it just seems like an inappropriate outlet, and hostile to the fandom--not to mention girls that perhaps have drawn a postive kind of hope from that same idea.

I can understand maybe watching that show and being disappointed that no one would come magically for you and make your life better.

...But would you honestly think that the Doctor, a fictional character, comes for anyone, much less you? Seriously. People need to learn to tell reality from fiction.

Well...I kind of wish I had the TARDIS. Then I wouldn't have to worry about rent and I'd be able to visit my family and friends whenever I'd want and still live in my favourite city.

Besides, the Doctor shows up at different ages for everyone! I mean, I was disappointed when I didn't get into Narnia before turning 15, when my 13th, 16th and 18th birthdays didn't reveal any magical secrets, but the Doctor...he could still show up!


...admittedly, I might just hijack the TARDIS for the reasons stated above and leave him stranded.
