Obviously he was just trying to do what he thought was right, but I don't think you can really blame his family for being pissed that he sided with his boss rather than them, and also started writing his little brother letters that basically said "Your best friend is crazy. Dump him and get on the path to success."
(Also: Percy...wasn't out of school in CoS. He was in sixth year.)
I don't know, overall they seem pretty normal for a seven-child family with below average means. There's bound to be some friction in any family, and the problems they have, like Ron's feeling inferior to his brothers, don't seem too out of the ordinary to me.
Basically, perfect loving family? No. Legitimate complaints about Molly and Arthur's parenting? Yes. Dysfunctional? No.
