I thought Molly bought Harry's robes with Harry's money? I could be wrong, but I could swear that's what she said. She could never have afforded pretty robes for anyone, let alone someone not in her family.

It was Harry's money.

She could have fixed Ron's with magic, for example, she didn't. And I think that by GoF the family financial situation isn't that dire, anyway. And Percy was already working so he could've chipped in? In fact, why didn't they ask Harry for a small loan to get Ron at least some used robes that didn't look so outdated? (I don't understand how they can transform things with abandon in MacGonagall's class, but fixing robes is completely out of the question... In fact, I simply don't understand poverty in HP's world, since all can be solved with magic except for some very specific potions that need hard to find ingredients)
Edited because I remembered that the family went to Egypt because they won a prize, and to fix a misused word. Oh, and to wonder why Charles and Bill couldn't give their younger brother a set of robes since both of them seem to have better works than their father.

*shrug* I dunno, I didn't write it. I was just pointing out that she didn't actually go out and buy better robes for Harry than for Ron. She could've fixed them, but maybe, like with many parents, she thought they looked "lovely," and didn't even think they WOULD embarrass him. Parents have weird tastes, at times. XD

And I'm pretty sure Harry ended up buying new dress robes for Ron, didn't he? (I'm not saying they asked for a loan, I'm just curious, 'cause it sounds familiar.)

Is ok. I should've said that she didn't do an effort for Ron, while she did at least went and bought the robes for Harry, even if it was with his money.

And no, Harry didn't bought robes for Ron, at least not in Gof. Poor Ron had to go with the monstruosity his mom sent (Which they made even more horrible in the movie. Pink and.. all disco like)

Really? Huh. I thought that was one of his conditions for the money he gave the twins, but I haven't read GoF in a while, so I could be wrong.

I actually kinda like the ones in the movie, but I've always had weird tastes. XD

I'm not going to go and get my copy, but maybe you're right. The problem is that the new set of robes comes *after* the big dance, and well, Ron had to go to the big dance with the old ones when Harry very well could've given Ron a gift *before* it.

The ones in the movies are monstrous to me, but mostly because they clash with everything else everyone is wearing. But then, I feel bad for the poor costume designers. Rowling wasn't exactly helpful with the descriptions of the clothes wizards wore in general.

I don't disagree. I did feel for Ron and his robes. :/

Yeah, didja notice that they talked about how wizards don't wear "muggle clothes," but then sweaters make normal gifts? Didn't make much sense to me.

Yeah, I noticed that. Bugged me for ages. XD Oh, JK.
