Re: Mini rant - really annoying things on tv/movies

Guess I'm jacking your thread, but one thing I don't care for anymore is when everything must be done in the nick of time/literally the last second.

Saving the person/neighborhood/city/country/planet/universe, winning the game, obtaining the thing that has great significance, sending the code, thwarting the enemy, blowing up the headquarters, stopping the flight, stopping the wedding (especially in the middle of "I do"), entering the contest during the final tally (and winning), ordering a stay of execution when the fucker is already strapped to the chair, and so on and so forth.

Just stop. Or at least let it backfire more often, I dunno. It would probably fuck up a lot of movies though, lol.

HA, yes. That is amazingly annoying. Especially when they did *not* have to wait to the last damn second. And most particularly when it's not remotely realistic; a huge door is closing and they're doing whatever and they keep showing the door closing at a speed which means it would be *shut already*, or only open an inch or so but when they finally manage to get to it, there's enough room to get through.

Grrr.

Ha! I knew I forgot one.

Similarly, this annoyed me so much about The Day After Tomorrow. They *just* manage to leave a boat crawling with wild animals and run across the street to the library to get to the room with the fireplace while carrying the dude with the bad leg, literally 30 seconds after observing that the worst of the storm had arrived? Really? At the rate the storm was moving, they would have been frozen long before they reached that room, especially if it were on a different floor, in a building that had no power at that point.

YES!! Omg.

Which leads to the *really* annoying 'injury that's just bad enough to make someone limp/wonky, but not so bad that they can't put on a burst of speed at the last second'. And/or 'injury that incapacitates but some whiskey and a grubby t-shirt bandage and we're good to go'.

Just stoppit.

I'll always appreciate the first Shrek movie for lampshading and subverting the "I do" part.
