No one is assuming kids are not wanted, they're asking if they are.

Acknowledging there is a chance children are unplanned is not unrealistic. It is also not the same as assuming a child is unwanted. It's acknowledging that the possibility exists.

Why would you read that question as though the child is assumed to be unwanted?
