ETA: I've completely withdrawn from the section of Doctor Who fandom I've been hanging around in for years. There's a lot about it I don't miss one bit. But gods, I miss teh funneh. "PC Handy"?! FTW!
126. Not even slightly pathetic. Distracting yourself with something amusing is a very good way of getting some relief from anxiety, depression, and feelings of wanting to hurt yourself. (It's only a bandaid, though. If you haven't already, let a doctor know how you're feeling.)
135. Knit a little one for the cat!
159. As heartbreaking and awful as it was, it disturbs me a little when people call it "mind-rape". It's not analogous to sexual assault, which has no redeeming fatures whatsoever, but to life-saving medical treatment given against the patients' wishes, which is more morally ambiguous. The Doctor can't bear to watch Donna die; he'd rather give up her companionship. It's selfish and generous, which rape could never be.
171. Post secrets in your native languages! Seriously, that would be brilliant! If nothing else, I'd like to see the multilingual equivalents of "I ship it". :-)

What the Doctor did to Donna is analogous to sexual assault in two ways. Firstly, it was against her consent. Secondly, it was a deep violation of her person.
What he did is not analogous to sexual assault in one very important way: he did it to save her life.
That's why I'm uncomfortable with using the word "rape" to describe the Doctor's action. It was heartbreaking and horrible, and you can make a good case that it was wrong; but show me the rapist who saved his victim's life.
Forcing life-saving treatment on someone is a better analogy. It's against their consent, it's a deep violation of their person - but it's done out of selfishness and love, not selfishness and hate.

Here I'm afraid we must agree to disagree.
Re: 102
Not really. If a patient said they didn't want a certain treatment even if it would save their life, it would be morally, ethically, and legally wrong for a doctor to force it on them.
