152. I wouldn't mind going to a release party again. Those nights were always so much fun. I heard the release party for Breaking Dawn (at least, the one at my bookstore) was kinda lame, though.

159. What he did was terrible, but really...at least she isn't DEAD. At least now there's a chance she could come back, possibly even with her time lord-y brain intact. And don't say 'but her brain will EXPLODE D:', I'm sure the writers could find a way around that. They write for Doctor Who, after all.

Nope, I agree as well. I hated it, I thought it was tragic and awful (that is, an awful thing for the writers to do to her, not for the Doctor, who had little other choice), but it's a heck of a lot better than her being dead!

*Nods* Exactly. I mean, do people really think she'd be better off with her head exploding? At least she's living and breathing.

in terms of storytelling, which is what people, you know, watch stories for, then yes it would absolutely be better for her to have died.

I guess that's a matter of opinion. It is fundamentally still a kid's show, so it's not unreasonable for them to avoid killing off companions.

For me watching it, the very fact that it is fundamentally a kids' show was what made it so. much. creepier. that the ultimate gist of that scene was that it was right for the doctor to enforce his will onto a woman (who was in every way his equal wrt making autonymous decisions - she had his knowledge, she knew the score) "for her own good" while she begged and pleaded for him not to.

Mind you, I'm often a bit ambivalent on DW because the doctor's lack of accountability skeezes me.

I can see your point... for some reason I find myself feeling pissed off at the writers, rather than pissed off at the Doctor. Maybe it's partly because DW has so many happy nostalgic connotations for me that it's one of the rare things I'm able to enjoy almost uncritically, in spite of its flaws (which is why I don't tend to get involved in the fandom beyond the fellow fans on my friends list).

Really? I suppose it could have been more satisfying to certain people, but I suppose that's a matter of opinion.
