Serious question, are you new to online gaming? I have been playing for decades and both the male and female version of this kind of person exists in every single game I have played.

Not new to online gaming at all...

Just lost of the games are so heavily male-dominated that the majority of girls don’t speak or just let other people think they’re guys.

So, question: could it be you only naively assume most of the games are male dominated because you yourself keep thinking everyone's a dude?

Because that's a myth shitty entitled dudebro gamers like to keep alive - how games are male dominated so they should only cater to dudes.
Seems you fell for it.

da

I've also been gaming for decades, and girls as described in the secret are pretty rare.

People who assume anyone who identifies herself as a woman in an online game is just trying to be special, on the other hand... Hooboy, you can't swing a dead trash mob without hitting one of those.

Also DA

True, I've run into people who think anybody who mentions they're female are attention whores. They're just as bad. But OP wouldn't know half their guild is female if they hadn't mentioned it sometime. The secret doesn't seem to be judgmental of those players.

I admit I cringe too when the first thing someone opens up with upon joining a guild is "I'm SexyDemon and I'm a girl," not their class or spec or anything game-relevant.

For me, it'd depend on the guild focus. If it's a raiding guild or something else very gameplay focused, then yeah, it's a weird and not very useful intro. If it's a social guild, I wouldn't really raise an eyebrow at it, because that is potentially relevant info in that case.

If it's only social then yeah, I agree. Who cares in that situation.

I assumed it was at least semi-serious since it sounded like contributing to the guild was an expectation

I did not game for decades as there was no internet in town back then :| but let's say 15 years - never met any woman like that. Ever. Done most popular MMOs besides WoW, Black Desert and EVE. There is probably few people like that as heard about it from ... few people who have been logical enough. The rest is precisely those who go 'ew girls on my internet!'.
