VPNs
(Anonymous) 2018-07-28 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)Re: VPNs
It works well for me; I can choose which country IP I want, which is convenient for getting past region blocks, and you can get all sorts of funny youtube ads.
There are two things I don't like about it. If my Wi-fi acts up, TZ tries to connect and will tell me that it fails to do so with a loud error message ca. every ten seconds; the only way to get it to shut up is to exit it entirely until the 'net is back up. There's also this thing where Windows is trying to protect me from nastybad unknown drivers, and I have to manually disable this option for TZ to work. It's reset everytime there's a Windows update, and messing around in the advanced boot menu is drag. I can't really fault this on TZ, though.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-28 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)They have an unlimited-time-but-very-limited-data-transfer "free trial" sort of thing just to try it out. I'm on their highest plan "Grizzly", which is unlimited data for $60 a year if you pay all at once. You can also buy service in monthly increments if you'd rather not commit to an entire year.

This goes into extreme detail about pros and cons.
I use ExpressVPN right now, but have used TunnelBear in the past. But I'm probably looking around for something else after my year runs out. ExpressVPN is more expensive, and the way online privacy is going, I want a VPN that doesn't keep logs.
