That's not the end of the world, but it doesn't look good for you, I agree. You know where you went wrong, so fix it and make sure you're the picture of a model employee on day 2.

Get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy, filling breakfast. Don't mess around on your phone until you're on official break. No, not even if you think you have a spare minute or five. Be on time, be appropriately dressed, be helpful and listen/take notes where applicable. Be polite and workplace-friendly. If you shape up quickly and don't slip again, people will be more willing to write the first day off as nerves or simply you having an off day.

This is excellent advice.

Thank you. I'm lucky enough to have a supervisor whose on my side and likes my work - I managed to avoid getting outright fired on the first day so I've still got a sliver of hope. Since my boss told me not to come back until the day after tomorrow, I'm thinking of spending tomorrow doing work samples that I can bring in and show that I'm serious about my job. Do you think that may work?

TBH this whole things been a nasty wake-up call about how kind of "out of control" I've let my life become, and I'm just hoping I can turn things around in this and other aspects of my life before it's too late. Does that make sense?
