I’m not even in Doctor Who fandom and remember the exact same excitement with as little to go on for the last few Doctors.

There's always general excitement, yeah. But I usually see it as being excited about seeing what comes of the new Doctor or excitement about the casting, not necessarily "ONG I love the new Doctor already!!"

Perhaps "I love the new Doctor already" IS in fact excitement about the casting and seeing what happens next. Being a little more excited for the first female Doctor but otherwise still within the range of "yay a new doctor!!!" is hardly overreaction.

nayrt but you could be right... it'd be a confusing and poor choice of words, though. One is clearly expressing a fairly specific and intimate kind of excitement over one character vs. being excited about the show as a whole. I see that as being two distinct things.

It's always, "I love the new Doctor!" before we've even seen him on screen.
