I totally agree with regards to the more recent (Comedy Central) roasts - they are just unbearable, I don't know why anyone watches 'em.

I haven't seen any of the older ones, I think I'd probably dislike them too though. I think that atmosphere of clubbiness and drunken good times can either be really enjoyable, or really annoying, depending on how much you like the people involved, you know?

I like to watch the CC roasts just to see how insane the jokes will get... then again, I've always been a little twisted.

Still, there are those times the jokes lose their effectiveness and I just eyeroll.

Older roasts do have a certain charm though, more good natured ribbing than cheap shock humor. I can see why people would find those more pleasant.

It's not that I think the jokes are too edgy, it's that I think they're not funny (and humor that relies purely on shock value is very rarely funny)
