Anthrax in the mail. I don't remember it super well because I was a kid, but people were scared they were gonna get killed by anthrax letters or something for about a month and then it all faded away.

IIRC there was a strong suspect but he committed suicide. I think investigators took that as an admission of guilt, but I don't recall all the details.

I was just thinking about that the other day. People were scared of anything that looked vaguely like white powder showing up in the mail. But I never hear people talk about it now either.

Is it the guy from Erie, PA? Casefile podcast had an episode about it and it was (imo) one if the most convoluted episodes I'd ever heard.
