He could be a good boyfriend but still a lousy entertainer. They're pretty different skill sets!

And it's much easier to be super funny/charming in person, when you're sharing energy with someone and bouncing ideas back and forth, than in any pre-recorded medium. If she thinks he's funny, it doesn't mean she has ZOMG terrible taste, or that she's right and you just don't get it. It means she encounters him in a really different context that's more flattering that the final product that makes it into her videos.

otoh just having different taste from her doesn't mean you wish her ill, either. I think most people have wished their favorite creatives made different decisions from time to time.

Those tweets were messed up and not clever or funny in any way. However I am so sick of cancel culture. I'm so sick of people digging through shit years in the past to ruin peoples lives.

Sure there are certain things that should never be forgiven and absolutely deserving of being fired, but this instance is just fucking petty.

I don't think he should have been fired ...

But if he wasn't, should Rosanne have been fired? Should the founder of Papa John's been harassed and made to disappear for using the n word in a descriptive (not against a human being) way? There's countless other examples of people whose careers were destroyed over jokes and offensive language.

The outrage mob needs to make up their damn minds and apply the rules fairly. If one person is acceptable and forgivable with an apology, so are the others.

(For context: I went and watched videos about the context of Gunn's more horrific comments, and they were intended to be jokes. They fell flat, but they were meant to be jokes.)
