I found the perfect car today

[personal profile] philstar22 2018-08-11 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
So we went and tested out a couple cars today. I fell in love with the first one. It was a deep red Honda fit with both a backup camera and a turn camera. I want that car. But the money won't actually be in our account until Wednesday, and the place couldn't hold it for us. So I'm just hoping really hard that it doesn't sell before then.

Good luck!
Too bad they won't hold it, that seems kinda fucked up.

Not really. It's Saturday, holding it until Wednesday is a while for a business where people depend on commissions. Also no offense to philstar but they probably hear the "oh yeah I totally have the money but not until X date" all the time from people who ghost them and leave them hanging. It's a perfectly reasonable policy.

I agree. I totally get it. In our case, because the money was donated, it has to be wired to us and won't be in our account until Wednesday. But I totally get why they won't hold it. I just hope it is still there or that I can find a similar car at the end of the week.

Yeah, it's nothing personal on their part, I'm sure. I hope the car's still there when you're ready! Those back up cameras are great for getting in and out of tricky driveways and parking spots.

I suppose. But a really good car, good price, not like its *not* going to sell.

*shrug*

If that were true, there'd never be any leftover stock and no car salesman would ever struggle to meet quotas. :) It's purely business. They're not going to want to hold a car for days for someone who might show up again and possibly miss out on selling that car to someone else who does have the money right away. Cars take up space on the lot and selling sooner is better than selling later. The policy makes sense for them, it's not fucked up at all.

I dunno if "not selling cars" is usually considered a successful strategy in the used cars business

Which is not what i said.

Good lord, this is a boring conversation to have more than once.

It's almost as if you don't communicate your thoughts clearly and have to repeat yourself endlessly to get your point across. Or else you do and just like to pretend that you meant to say something else when someone points out that what you just said is stupid.

Either way, you'd probably have fewer boring conversations if you were better at expressing yourself.

It's almost as if more than one person feels the need to *repeat what the other commentors already said*, as if i hadn't read the comments.

I stated my opinion - seemed pretty clear to me. I didn't pretend i said anything but it seems sucky they wouldn't hold the car. Why is that so difficult to get?

I don't mean to jump on you because you were probably just sympathizing with philstar. But it seems weird to call the policy fucked up when it's not. Very few businesses who rely upon sales commissions are going to hold a big ticket item for someone without any sort of deposit or guarantee. That's just common sense.

And I think it seemed a bit sucky, still do.
*shrug*

I'm not upset or anything, just annoyed at being told the same thing *several times* but what i can only assume is different people.

Oh yeah, it sucks a little bit. I guess I view that as different from being fucked up. Lots of things suck, but ultimately I can understand the sense behind it.

Re: I found the perfect car today

[personal profile] tabaqui 2018-08-11 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I can and i can't. Google tells me that car sales people only sell maybe 8 - 10 cars in a month, so holding onto a car someone is really interested in for a couple days doesn't seem like a thing that would make a huge impact on their overall sales, you know?

But, whatever. It is what it is.

Okay. But I look at it this way... it's their livelihoods and I'm not a car salesman. They probably know a lot better than me what policies and practices are better for business and which aren't, due to years and years of real life practice. It's easy for me to armchair quarterback and criticize what looks like a screwy policy from my non-expert POV, but I'm making my call based on incomplete info and complete lack of real life experience. What are the odds I've identified a big flaw in their business practice that seasoned car salesmen have missed?

......who cares?
I'm not trying to 'identify a big flaw', i'm *stating my opinion*, yeesh.
Something we all do on this comm on the regular.

So done.

I think it's a bit disingenuous to ask "who cares" at the end of a 17 comment long thread. I care enough to participate, and obviously so do you. There's also nothing wrong with stating your opinion. I can see you don't care for people questioning it, but that's also something we all do on this community on the regular.

I think it's rude to ignore people's comments unless they're being abusive or totally snotty, so yes - i've replied.

I don't care if people question my opinion, but it gets tiring when several people make the *same comment* over and over. Got it, you all disagree with me, doesn't change my opinion.

Oh, by the way, we offered to put down 1-2k as a deposit. And to sign a contract to guarentee we'd come back for the car.

Re: I found the perfect car today

(Anonymous) 2018-08-11 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's too bad they didn't have a procedure in place that allows people to do that. As long as you were fine with not taking the car until it's paid in full, I think that's reasonable.

My husband has the same car. :D And I have a blue Honda Fit. I love the turn camera so much, it helps a lot when driving on the highway. I hope that you end up getting it!
