I simply love Guy.
(Anonymous) 2018-09-19 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)While they're not wrong, and the secret isn't crude by any means, I just cannot see how the way Guy presents himself, (Something he knows is apparently 'out of the ordinary', and something he'll poke fun at time and time again) still has people judging him regardless of the way he truly acts. With all the social justice these days, and the delicacy people seem to take in not stepping on anyones toes- that a man who is all but proven to be kind is still seen as just a 'douche-bag' because of the way he dresses is astounding to me.
He is the only celebrity chef I will follow, because he is genuine with everything he has ever done.
He brought back Grocery Games because he loved the setting and series as a child, making it as authentic to the original as he could. His Diners Drive-ins and Dives series was founded only to bring public appeal to the lesser known restaurants whose food deserved recognition. The restaurants shown were voted in by local demand, it wasn't as if the business' hadn't wanted him to be there, or thought his arrival would injure their reputation in any way... The anonymous comment that thought his showcase of those restaurants left them wrought in amber couldn't be more wrong. I'm sorry to say, but his was the only show, and I mean the ONLY one, that didn't excessively stroke it's own ego as the means to give some person a food stamp to mark their approval.
Cutthroat Kitchen, Restaurant Makeover, along with all those other shows that existed on drama rather than integrity- Guy has never, not even once, used his name to put down another. Despite the ratings demand for drama, he never changed his tune to be anything less than positive.
He broadcasts restaurants because he believes their food is worth it. He would never insult a chef, nor allow any judge of his to do the same. His charity work goes beyond reason, be it in Triple G, Make a Wish, or regarding his own family... I don't know a single soul as gracious and kind as he is.
That is why it bothers me as much as it does that people can judge him so wrongly based on the image they see.
He is eccentric, there is no doubt, but it is his love of life that makes him so; not his dress, nor his penchant for reality TV... To judge him for that isn't right, because he has never spent a single second in the public eye, nor any second out of it, not attempting to do good.
And I am sorry for the rant- I know quite well that insisting as much as I have does more hurt than good for the person I'm attempting to describe- It's just that I refuse to say nothing for someone like him. Like Guy. Even though it's late, and stupid to say anything at this point... if anyone might read this, and see the point I'm pathetically trying to make- then maybe my words wont be for naught.
