Aw, that's really cool of him. I actually like some of his shows, but his wardrobe makes me lol a little.

He's loud, but he's nice. I like Grocery Games.

he's a bit of a dork and has Bart Simpson hair but I've been to some of the restaurants he recommends and they were awesome.

I.... don't know. I want to like him, but maybe I'm just too suspicious and cynical to really believe in him, you know?

Also I have incredibly mixed feelings about his shows. The restaurants that he showcases are usually really good, granted. But I feel like the overall effect of his show on American eating is kind of negative. Being featured on his show sets these places apart, and freezes them in amber, so that they become nothing more than A Place That Was On Guy Fieri - popular, but also strongly incentivized to do nothing but play the hits. Like, at some level, the places that Fieri visits shouldn't be special. They should be commonplace. Being able to eat good, fresh, locally-made, affordable food should be a birthright, not something that needs to be advertised and pointed out.

IDK I think about this shit too much, I'm an idiot.

I remember around the time people were trying to get Smash Mouth to eat the eggs (google it), Guy Fieri's past came up. People were saying that he was angry that a gay couple was at his restaurant.

Fieri also needed protection from homosexuals, or at least advance warning. Early in the show's run, Page got a phone call from Fieri, who'd just walked out of a restaurant in a huff.

"Guy had decided that the two men running the restaurant were life partners," Page remembers. "He said, 'You can't send me to talk to gay people without warning! Those people weird me out!'

Has his opinion on gay people changed lately and now he advocates for them? I still mostly remember him for being a tool.

I think that story ended up not being true?

(Anonymous) 2018-08-17 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
He literally got ordained and certified so he could marry gay people so.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-17 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
People were saying that you fuck bunnies.

"Bunnies have filed numerous restraining orders against anon," a disgruntled former coworker of anon claimed. "Anon just laughed and said, 'Bunnies have no legal rights. I'mma fuck me some bunnies.'"

Have your opinions on bunny fucking changed lately and now you're advocating for animal welfare?

Well, that seems in line with what I've heard of him.

He may be really loud sometimes, but he seems like a really nice guy.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-17 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
that's such a good thing to hear. I keep hearing anecdotal things about how great of a guy he is - charitable, now anon mentioned the ordained minister thing above - and it's great because he just looks like he'd be a douchebag. And then you find out he's not. He's the opposite of douchebag. I'm down with that.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-17 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He has the douchiest look in the world but manages to be a genuinely sweet guy tbh.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-20 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I always read how incredibly sweet and generous he is, but I will never get over the outfits, the 90's boy band bleach job, or the way he cannot seem to chew. I swear for a guy who lives to go to places to eat, the man chews so damn weird.

I simply love Guy.

Most of these comments, especially the OP in question, honestly offend me with their opinion...

While they're not wrong, and the secret isn't crude by any means, I just cannot see how the way Guy presents himself, (Something he knows is apparently 'out of the ordinary', and something he'll poke fun at time and time again) still has people judging him regardless of the way he truly acts. With all the social justice these days, and the delicacy people seem to take in not stepping on anyones toes- that a man who is all but proven to be kind is still seen as just a 'douche-bag' because of the way he dresses is astounding to me.

He is the only celebrity chef I will follow, because he is genuine with everything he has ever done.
He brought back Grocery Games because he loved the setting and series as a child, making it as authentic to the original as he could. His Diners Drive-ins and Dives series was founded only to bring public appeal to the lesser known restaurants whose food deserved recognition. The restaurants shown were voted in by local demand, it wasn't as if the business' hadn't wanted him to be there, or thought his arrival would injure their reputation in any way... The anonymous comment that thought his showcase of those restaurants left them wrought in amber couldn't be more wrong. I'm sorry to say, but his was the only show, and I mean the ONLY one, that didn't excessively stroke it's own ego as the means to give some person a food stamp to mark their approval.
Cutthroat Kitchen, Restaurant Makeover, along with all those other shows that existed on drama rather than integrity- Guy has never, not even once, used his name to put down another. Despite the ratings demand for drama, he never changed his tune to be anything less than positive.
He broadcasts restaurants because he believes their food is worth it. He would never insult a chef, nor allow any judge of his to do the same. His charity work goes beyond reason, be it in Triple G, Make a Wish, or regarding his own family... I don't know a single soul as gracious and kind as he is.
That is why it bothers me as much as it does that people can judge him so wrongly based on the image they see.

He is eccentric, there is no doubt, but it is his love of life that makes him so; not his dress, nor his penchant for reality TV... To judge him for that isn't right, because he has never spent a single second in the public eye, nor any second out of it, not attempting to do good.

And I am sorry for the rant- I know quite well that insisting as much as I have does more hurt than good for the person I'm attempting to describe- It's just that I refuse to say nothing for someone like him. Like Guy. Even though it's late, and stupid to say anything at this point... if anyone might read this, and see the point I'm pathetically trying to make- then maybe my words wont be for naught.
