Summaries

Given no other information about 4 stories other than their summaries, which one of the four would you read?

Summary 1: quotes 2-3 lines from a crucial or evocative moment of the story
Summary 2: clearly and calmly describes the premise of the story
Summary 3: poetic/flowery description of story.
Summary 4: mentions the genesis of the story on Tumblr and talks about what the author was generally going for

2, but my personal preference is 2 followed by 1 to give an example of the actual writing style contained within

3 and 4 usually end up generic and bland

1 for short stories, 2 for novel-length.

Depending on the story I might go for 1-3 and would likely skip 4 unless I knew the author or their premise was mind-blowingly amazing.

Number 2 all the way. I'm an old fart who likes summaries that get to the point.

#2. I don't really like #1 because it rarely tells you enough info about the plot and... I don't know, it feels really pretentious to me. No to #3 because people don't tend to do poetic/flowery well. #4 is just... I don't care.

2, maybe combined with 1 in certain circumstances but definitely 2. Definite no to 3, and 4 would really depend on the author because I could see it being unbearably pretentious in most circumstances.

1 or 2

hard pass on 3, that's the worst
