Probably a lot of those actual crazy-rich Asians wish that book were their lives too. "Loosely based on a true story" in Hollywood means "basically fiction," lol. Being a Saudi princess in real life is a much different reality from a royalty rom-com movie, too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying money is irrelevant! I'd love to be crazy-rich too. As would we all, I'm sure. But feeling that deprived at this specific fantasy as though it's a reality might not be all that good to dwell on.

Have you read the books? Their lives aren't depicted as being amazing and problem-free. And I'm fully aware that there's a difference between fiction and reality, but thanks, I guess.

Eh, well, I never said their lives are depicted as amazing and problem-free. Just saying it's probably a good idea to keep the perspective that it is fiction. And seeing as it's fiction, there's no need to argue whether money solves all problems or not or be realistic about it, is there? Because in the fiction, it can if you want.

That's why the secret sounded like it might have been by someone who thought the book was some sort of realistic depiction. If that's not you, no worries then.

I am the anon you responded to and the OP and I never said it was a realistic depiction. I'm aware it's a fictional novel because I'm not an idiot. My point was that it's easier to manage most of life's problems when you're rich than it is when you're poor.

Hmm, well I never said you said it was a realistic depiction. I said I left that comment because it sounded like the secret's OP (AKA you) might have thought that. I know lots of people in person who do! People equate fiction "based on a true story" to "realistic" all the time and eh, I wouldn't call them idiots unable to differentiate fiction from reality, especially when the book is written by an author who's stated it's based it "loosely" off their own life experiences.

But you've said you don't do that, and like I said last time, no worries then.

nayrt

There is no non-condescending way to tell someone that you thought they might not be able to distinguish between fiction and reality. That's what you were telling the OP and tacking on a "no worries then" doesn't make it NOT condescending.

They weren't, and OP massively overreacted. AYRT was amazingly patient at the petulant outburst from OP.
