I know a few people who hunt for food. Not because they need to, per se, so much as it's cheaper than buying meat in a lot of cases and they don't mind doing the work. (They also want to keep meat rabbits and such in the future.)

I think I'm okay with that. My issue really is people viewing it as a sport or a game. If you want to do it for food, no difference than any other means of getting meat. But don't make it a game. Shooting living things is not a game.

It can be both.

I'm saying it shouldn't be. Killing animals should not be considered a sport. They are living beings. Do it out of necessity, sure. Everyone needs to eat. But don't do it for fun. Don't ever forget that you're killing a living being.

To will the end is to will the means. I think anyone can find satisfaction in doing their work well, whatever the work is. And if the work itself isn't morally objectionable, I don't think that the satisfaction can be either.

Nah. I get where you're coming from, but nah. I cook for fun - which quite often involves the flesh of dead animals. By all means appreciate where your food comes from, but treating it like it's a sacred relic (that you happen to be making into meatloaf) isn't something people have to do.

And the logic would also extend - as far as I can tell - to enjoying the taste of meat.

Exactly. I don't hunt, nor do I see myself enjoying it as a sport. But as long as people aren't hunting endangered species and they're using the meat, I don't see a problem with enjoying the activity. They're outdoors, being part of the circle of life, putting food on their table. I enjoy grocery shopping. I enjoy cooking for myself and family/friends and I definitely enjoy eating! It's ridiculous to say oh nooooo, you shouldn't enjoy any of that because there's a dead animal involved.
