For using drugs? Nah. For making drug use part of their brand and advertising how great it is on social media when millions of people are influenced by their music? Yeah. That's shitty.

I'm not sure how to respond to this tbqh, because it doesn't seem true at all, it seems like people who use drugs glamorize them all the time - in ways that are harmful, and sometimes in ways that are somewhat benign.

But glamorizing your lifestyle is not inconsistent with being an addict, and with being a victim of that addiction.

You have to be talking about a specific celebrity because I can't think of a single OD that made the news where the celebrity had glorified drugs. The only ones I can think of all were struggling with addiction, knew it was a bad thing, and wanted to quit.

Okay. Well, then the secret should have been more specific and not made it out as if there are a whole ton of dead celebrities who were glorifying drugs. That simply isn't true.

Lil Peep. The last video he posted to his fans before he OD'd was bragging about taking a bunch of Xanax bars.

These are probably the most famous celebs who are not dead (yet) but they all sing about how awesome drugs are. Post Malone, Lil Wayne, Kodak Black.

As a rap fan, it is crazy how rap has changed from rappers warning about the dangers of drugs to have an actual "rapper" called Lil Xan.

I agree that it is probably about Mac Miller, especially given the OP's comment below. And, while he maybe didn't fully glamorize drug use, he kinda did some. Like making comments like "I love lean [a mix of codeine and promethazine]; it’s great,” and in regards to his drug use in a documentary "“I get f—ed up, let’s keep it real,” he said. “I get super f—ed up, still, all the time. That will never stop. But I’m in control of my life. I’m not f—ed up right now. I’m chillin.” And his songs have many references to drugs in them. He had also said that he did drugs but he wasn't an addict. Obviously he had issues, as he ODed, and he has said he struggled with depression. So I am empathetic to his struggles and to his family. But make of it what you will.

Man, that just depresses me. That kind of thinking is so typical of the illness.

My mom used to think she wasn't an alcoholic because she drank wine instead of hard alcohol. My best friend's mom thinks she's in control because she isn't drunk 24/7.

Like if that's the measure we use to determine whether someone is glamorizing their addiction and thus "deserving" of being mocked and insulted in death, then that's just sad.

I also hate how some alcoholics (especially functional/semi-functional ones) tend to be super sanctimonious and condescending when it comes to their opinion about "real drugs". My uncle used to be an alcoholic and yet he still thought he had some kind of high ground to lecture my mother about my brother's weed smoking habits. Just because something is a legal drug doesn't mean it's anz better/more harmless...
