Do you still write for active fandoms? Most of my older and crappier fics have lots of comments while my newer ones don't because the fandoms died down.

Timing is a LOT in fanfiction. I happened to write a decent fic for a rarepair when that fandom was dying down and not a lot of content was being produced and that thing has gotten more hits/comments that anything I've ever written before. I've also written unpopular het fic when a fandom is 'high tide' and gotten TONS of comments...then a popular slashy thing when fandom is in hibernation and gotten zilch responses. So timing really plays a big role.
