Phantom of the Opera. Eh. Not sure it counts as "classic" and it's been adapted plenty.

But.

I want something that takes more than the barebones of the plot, and keeps the Persian, and the swarms of little dancers, and Raoul's Older Brother Doing His Best even though he disapproves of Raoul/Christine, and the tunnels left by the Communards... something that keeps all the chaotic life that Leroux brought to it. You could get five or six tv episodes out of it easy peasy.

Directed/produced by Guillermo del Toro, please? (I’m always so impressed by the amount of research and symbolism he crams into his stuff, and of course he loves monsters.)
