I dunno. I don't recognize this guy, so I stopped watching before he was around. I liked Jess better because he was into books and stuff like she was, and seemed to challenge her a bit, make her think and fight a little.

Dean always did the 'omg, she's gonna look at booooooks!!' eye-rolly thing and just seemed to want her to be a cookie-cutter gf instead of her own person.

This is what was frustrating to me about Gilmore Girls, because once they decided they wanted Rory to have a new boyfriend they'd change the last one's personality. Rory started dating Dean because when they first met her understood her literary references, and they were often depicted sharing books and music with each other. But once Jess was introduced Dean steadily changed until there was nothing left of the character Rory had met at the beginning. The same thing happened to Jess but it's most obvious with Dean because at least you can see why Rory liked Jess and his "development" at least vaguely made sense even if it was implausible (and he did get his shit together eventually), whereas the character Dean became seems entirely incompatible with Rory in every way.
