(Anonymous) 2018-09-13 02:30 am (UTC)(link)I get that it was pervasive through large amounts of some people's childhoods but so was School House Rock and you don't see me expecting everyone I meet in fandom to be able to sing the 'grammar conjunction junction' song.

Personally, the big "Adults enjoy it too!" that was after my time is Harry Potter. I was just over the age range for it, and it was before "Adults love it too!" really kicked in so I just tried the first book, found it too young for my tastes, though the movies were fine, and moved on with my life while sitting back and watching the fandom wank.

tons of kids who weren't around for the heydey get into the newest iteration all the time
there IS no "it's time" with a megafranchise like that
it's okay to say you're just not into something without making it generational
