just out of curiousity, why do you think people would have to be crazy or stupid to have sex with him? maybe they're just attracted to him? idk.

I think anybody who lets a 'celebrity' take advantage of their fame in order for a quickie has to be either crazy, stupid or running low on self-respect. But hey, maybe that's just me?

well, i see where you are coming from. but i don't think that everyone who sleeps with a celebrity does it simply BECAUSE the person is a celebrity.

If they met the guy on the street or something it'd be different, it's just the fact that people PAY to go to conventions (and maybe even pay to specifically meet HIM) that bothers me.

lol, that's one heck of an all-inclusive con ticket! now you've got me curious how often he does this? are we talking just a couple of women, in which case i don't think it's that big of a deal. all the time, though... could be problematic.

Oh, completely. If he meets a couple of women he feels attracted to then, whatever, do your thing Carlson, but the secret made it sound like him repeatedly taking advantage of fans (fans of JENSEN at that), which just isn't cool. It's gross.

I find it odd that you assume that the girls are in this for reasons other than sex. I mean, okay, yeah, some of them probably are in it for bragging rights, but there are probably more than a few that would do it because he's an attractive guy and they like having sex. Not everyone thinks it's a big deal to have a one night stand.

(And no, I haven't slept with him or met him.)

It's not a big deal, and I've said either in this thread or another that him meeting a few women he found attractive at cons isn't either - but the secret made it sound like he was repeatedly taking advantage of the situation. A situation he's in because he knows somebody more famous than himself.

Besides, you can't deny that a fans are sometime a tad deluded or have certain ideals/fantasies about people and situations.

Hm, yeah, I can sort of see where you're coming from. I...find the whole thing hilarious for some reason. As long as everyone involved knows what they're doing (and is of age, because, yeah), whatever, really.

I'd imagine (hope) that everyone involved really does know what they're doing and that it's not a big deal on either end.

But I can't help but be aware that it's not a Steve Carlson gig or a bar or something, it's a convention where people go to meet Jensen and Jared (and various other show/movie stars, producers, etc), to listen to them tell stories and answer questions and maybe listen to Steve Carlson do a few numbers while the guys have a break.

I don't know about you but it would bother me if I was picking people up who'd paid to come see my friends and could potentially think nothing of me other than "Oh, they know this person..."

Then again, I'm not a guy.

It really all depends on what everyone's looking to get out of the, uh, experience, I guess. Although I've read some con reports where people were there for Steve specifically, as opposed to being there for other people and settling. He doesn't seem to tour really so it's possible that at least some of the girls are his fans by choice rather than via Jensen fangirling.

Con tickets are expensive right? Which says to me that they must be rather hardcore fans of his to pay that much for just him. Which AGAIN makes me think he shouldn't be fucking them. But really, this is just my opinion.

Depends on the con and what one does there. If it's a local con and one volunteers, sometimes they can actually be pretty cheap. Not sure about any of the ones he's gone to though.

Plus, if someone has spent a bunch of money to see him--or even just to go to con--and ends up sleeping with him, seems to me that everyone involved gets something out of it. These are grown ups (hopefully), they can make their own decisions.

Yeah, it's is a fine opinion to have but just not one that I'm sure I share.

Even if they are his fans, I think with everyone who has (what I'll tentatively refer to as) 'groupies' there's a point where 'a few times' becomes 'too many times'.

I'd like to think he hasn't taken advantage of the situation but I'm still not convinced the secret wasn't about fans-of-Steve-via-Jensen, at SPN-centric con sessions.

See the biggest problem I see with the POV of this secret is that it's making a comparison between Steve and Jason which right away made cynical me think it's a Jason fan that's pissed that he has gotten a bad rap sometimes for selling CDs to SPN fans by using the fact that Jensen's singing backup on some of his songs. Which then makes me feel like they're making up rumors purely to try and make Steve out to be worse. I suppose one of the biggest reasons I feel like that is because this is the first time I've heard of any kind of rumor like this. As I said in another thread, it was no secret when Nicholas Brendon or James Marsters did it at cons and though Steve is a smaller fish so to speak than them, it's still hard to sneak something like this under fan con radar.

On top of that, while the secret does try to make the implication that these are Jensen-only fans that are sleeping with Steve, it really only says that he sleeps with fans at cons. Now if it is true, like I mentioned before, while it's unlikely these fans go only for Steve (though there are the cheaper day tickets that they could buy making that possible for some if they're living nearby), these fans could easily be both Jensen AND Steve fans since there have been plenty of those at these things too. Which would, if true, mean that those fans are sleeping with him because they like him specifically not necessarily because of Jensen.

Either way I think it's a dangerous game considering how batshit certain members of this fandom have proved themselves to be.

I've honestly never come across anybody who went to a con simply to see Steve Carlson - not that I doubt they exist - and he may well have a Steve-fan radar that allows him to recognise the true Steve-fans in the crowd...but I'm guessing not. So what are the chances that, if he is picking up women, it's specifically them each time it's happened?

Fandom sees Steve as a big part of Jensen's life (a bigger part than he probably is in reality) and it just doesn't seem at all unlikely to me that someone would sleep with him in order to feel closer to Jensen - to which I've already stated "If it were me I'd have an issue with that, but I'm not a guy." or words to that effect.

I've repeatedly stated that all of this is my opinion and all of it is based on an anonymously posted secret which may or may not be true. It's still an interesting discussion to have and one that I obviously find myself on one side of no matter who it concerns.

And for the record, the Jason Manns thing was dumb, $10 for a single is a little ridiculous - but I was more shocked that his TV-star boyfriend didn't slip him some money for the studio bill so that Jason wouldn't have to backrupt all his fans.

Considering that Jason didn't tell Jensen originally why he'd rented the studio and had to get a couple of drinks in him before he agreed to do it, I'm not sure why Jensen should be expected to pay for it. No I'm not suggesting there was anything underhanded here, I think it was just one of those things between friends. Jensen knows he's not a professional singer. Everytime Jensen goes to a con, he's got idiots asking him to sing - clearly there was a market in that it's something lots of fans want, being able to actually hear Jensen sing clearly, not on a crappy video recording with bad sound.

I don't think Jason ripped anyone off. No one forced anyone to buy the single. Anyone who did so did it of their own free will, especially as most of the people who ended up buying it had already been able to download it. There are probably many more people who just got it for free from a download.

I don't believe Jason or Jensen did anything wrong and it's fans whining about stuff like that all the time, expecting something for nothing, which is why so often fans end up getting nothing at all.

This is the problem with anonymously replying to somebody you don't know.

That's unfair to both Jensen and Jason. Jason didn't know how many of these he'd sell and he was worried about being able to make back the cost of renting the studio but as soon as he did, he made it available for free for download on his myspace. So anyone who genuinely couldn't afford it(if someone could buy it, then they could afford it, no one went bankrupt buying that single), after a few days they were able to get it for free download.

As for Jensen, I read on someone's LJ that they talked to Jason about how it came about and they said Jason told them he didn't tell Jensen what he was planning to do at first. Jensen ended up having alot of fun doing it but he seemed to take a some convincing, perhaps helped by a bit of liquid courage. The actual selling of the thing probably wasn't something he thought much about.

Once again, I thought it was pretty obvious that I was joking. I've refered to that in humour on my journal several times. I forget that I'm not simply joking with an LJ friend and maybe I'm a little dry in my sarcasm.

It's almost impossible to have a discussion with people you don't know, especially those choosing to remain anonymous.

Uh, a lot of girls I met only fan Steve because they starfuck the hell out of him because he's Jensen's friends. I'm sorry, but I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to people's reasons for doing anything, and I BET YOU he gets a LOT more tail from SPN fangirls because he's Jensen's buddy, NOT because they REALLY genuinely like him as a person.

Er, who's to say the celeb is taking advantage? If anything, fans that want a one-nighter are taking just as much advantage of the celeb in that if they choose to they can brag about having slept with them. I encountered enough girls who did that when Nicholas Brendon and James Marsters used to sleep with them at the Buffy cons (and James' concerts) and for all I know still do. Unless the celebs are forcing themselves on these fans or the fan is underage then I see nothing wrong for two consenting adults to go for it and nothing to imply that someone is necessarily being taken advantage of.
