Hard same, OP. Jean (and Scott, to a lesser extent) has been pigeonholed into one character story line for a long long time, and there's not nearly enough material outside of that where she is just herself. If it were my choice, I'd almost completely rewrite Jean's story and character without the Phoenix stuff, and let her develop without that hanging over her head all the time.

Personally, I always wanted the Phoenix Force to go back to Rachel. I thought she bonded the best with it.
