IDGI either. Sure, there are more haters in large fandoms, but I just block them. And there's more fic, but very little of it works for me, so I still end up writing what I want to read.

Well, there has been such a thing as slave revolts. And independence movements have been known to blow things up. But I think the real point of relation is being told you’re a dangerous monster, until eventually you decide to write a story that owns it. If you’re dealing with people who think Jews have horns and drink the blood of Christian children, your first impulse will be to say “no we don’t, you idiot.” But sufficient frustration may lead to you writing characters who have horns and drink blood and still don’t deserve genocide. (This sort of thing happens a lot with mental illness metaphors.)

Generally, he doesn't treat him the same in fics. A lot of them are about Steve learning to adjust.

In the movies they have not spent enough time where they are not in a crisis to know how they interact. What WE have seen on screen indicates that Steve is letting Bucky be his own person.

Hard same, OP. Jean (and Scott, to a lesser extent) has been pigeonholed into one character story line for a long long time, and there's not nearly enough material outside of that where she is just herself. If it were my choice, I'd almost completely rewrite Jean's story and character without the Phoenix stuff, and let her develop without that hanging over her head all the time.

Uh, it's YA with typically simple answers to some complex questions, so it has to be judged by those standards.

I would love to read a more complex, grown up take one day though. Something that doesn't shy away from neither the moral dilemmas nor the baser instincts driving us.
