like, I get you with things like character deaths and major plot twists, but at the same time, do realize that yeah, in a lot of the fandom spaces, people don't assume that newbies ever show up anymore. some of the fandoms are so old and dead they probably don't think newbies will ever come. never mind that in some spaces "tag your spoilers" isn't as easy as it is on tumblr. even here on F!S we're good about waiting until comments collapse and using subject lines so people don't stumble on spoilers unless they expand the thread, but not every site, forum, or platform is as easy-breezy.

I'm in a 20 year old fandom for an ongoing show and generally, people are good about not discussing spoiler events openly in front of newbs since yeah, we do still get people coming into the fandom fresh. I've enabled two in the past six months and am currently watching two more stumble on huge events that are already three years old. but if they go to pixiv and start browsing fanart, they're going to get spoiled hardcore because there's just no means of filtering out or even tagging art of characters who died 10 years ago. at some point you just have to accept where is safe, where is not, and what to look at or avoid based on experience.
