Fandom secrets you're too lazy to make

Let 'em rip!

A Little Princess is my favorite childhood book and I have a well-worn copy that I reread every year. That's not the secret. The secret is that, whenever I'm having a hard day at work and getting screamed at, I pretend I'm a princess to help me deal with everything. People always ask how I can be so professional and patient, but I don't want to tell anyone the real reason because it's a little embarrassing.

Right there with you. I always daydream. And my favorite fictional OC that I pretend to be is secretly the long-lost heir of a galaxy-spanning government. She can also kick everyone's ass. And a lot of her is the best of traits I'd like to be. So I often use her (and also Leia Organa) as inspiration.

This is excellent and will be made into a secret.

I don't especially like Lena Dunham. But I'll always be thankful to her for giving me naked, sexy, dirty-talking Adam Driver.

I hate it when people advertise their books on FF.net by posting just the first chapters and then saying that you can buy the rest on Kindle or something. Just post your story or advertise it somewhere else.

Jfc, people do that? That's so tacky.

I don't think the Spike trying to rape Buffy thing is as cut and dry as people say. I think they had a very kinky, BDSM-like without the rules relationship. I think there was a whole lot of no means yes going on. So I think he genuinely believed that she didn't mean the no and was actually consenting. And considering their relationship, I think that belief was reasonable. The instant he realized she meant the no, he stopped. So, complicated.

Agreed. Their relationship was always ten shades of fucked up to me, where both of them used the other in order to push and break personal boundaries.

The minute anyone complains about SJWs, I tune them out. There are legit critiques of things like TLJ and Doctor Who. But if someone starts out by blaming SJWs? I'm done and I dismiss everything else they say.

I'm confused - don't SJWs also think there are legit critiques of TLJ and Doctor Who? I don't disagree with your sentiment - I'm just trying to parse the sentences.

My mom hated science fiction but she used to watch Star Trek with me because she had a thing for William Shatner.

i legit can't understand people who ship something but hate one, or both halves, of the ship, or hate the ship in the canon.

and i don't mean they hated what it turned into over seasons, they hated it from day 1 but still ship it for some reason?

genuinely the most confusing kind of behavior i come across in fandoms sometimes.

[but then i have to actually like the canon relationship/all parties involved or i won't ship a couple]

Re: Fandom secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2018-09-18 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get that, either, yeah. I'm with you, I have to like both the characters I'm shipping, too. I want to be able to get what they each see in the other.

I can see the hating the ship in canon thing, depending on the show and how the couple gets together. Sometimes you can see the train wreck coming and you want no part of it. Sometimes the canon ship is framed as a mistake before the endgame ship can happen. Sometimes they get together because of a lie or under horrible, character-destroying reasons. All of it can make you hate how that ship is portrayed while not erasing your desire to see it done better.

I’m right with you on the “why ship characters you don’t like” thing though.

I don't get this either. Especially when people actively write for the pairing.

For the longest time I thought Better Call Saul was a show a la Queer Eye for the Straight Guy where you would call this guy "Saul" to give you wardrobe advice....

Like, I have no idea why I thought that but I did until I googled it and was proven wrong. WTF self.

Ahahahaha, I love this secret :D. I haven't seen BCS, but from what I do know about it, this idea entertains me greatly.

I hate it when fanfic authors use they/them pronouns for BB-8. It's always ridiculously clunky to read. If you absolutely have to use neutral pronouns, just use "it" in this case - it's a damned droid!

Kutner was the best character on House (outside of House and Wilson). I loved that little dude.

Also, seasons 4 and 5 were the best seasons of the show, and Chase and Cameron were even more boring than 13.

Sometimes I feel kind of pathetic. But then I remember I'm at least not as pathetic as that sanctimonious homophobic chick in my tiny fandom who flies into a frothing rage every time someone ships her husbando (who wouldnt touch her flabby cunt with a ten foot pole if he were real) with another guy from the show. And then I feel better.
