Lootboxes are gambling.

Gambling isn't necessarily bad, nor is it necessarily illegal, but it IS regulated and kept away from children. Just like lootboxes should be.

SA

I feel the same way about alcohol, weed, etc. - regulate and set age limits. If you're adult enough to know better and old enough to take responsibility for yourself about it, have at. Lootbox and gamble away. But enticing a 13 year old to spend real money (which may as well be monopoly money to most kids that age) is the same as casino ads aimed at kids. They have no idea what that sort of thing really means

Agreed.

And, to me, not just regulated but kept in a limited availability in society. I need to think about this more but it just seems to me that things like this - they prey on fundamental limitations of human nature and rationality. They're intrinsically exploitative and dangerous on that basis, and I think we should really think much more than we do about limiting them on those grounds.
