My fandoms get their female characters out of the way by deciding they're all canon lesbians -- especially if they need to be gotten out of the way because they're in love with one of the male characters, yes, that definitely makes sense for a canon lesbian -- shipping them with each other, calling everyone who ships them with the men a homophobe, and pretending they're Woke for it.

I'd say shipping a female character with another female character is preferable to how female characters were treated in my earlier fandom days.

It's a losing battle really. If you refuse to celebrate their canon love interest you get called a misogynist, If you just ignore a female character you get called a misogynist, you try to ship them with another girl or call them a lesbian you have some hidden agenda. Maybe people should just be honest and say YEAH I DON'T LIKE THIS CHARACTER FOR PETTY REASONS... but in the current fandom environment they'd probably get doxxed and exposed or some shit.

Not anon you're replying to, but I think many people would be okay with people not mentioning the canon love interest in this case, or just stating that it's an AU where the canon pairing isn't a thing. No drama involved with that.

I think it'd leave a much better taste in my mouth rather than having to read through five chapters of the canon pairing having the most bitter, hateful divorce settlements along with hurting each other emotionally and physically just to get to the part where the gratuitous m/m buttfucking begins.
