What popular movies have you never seen?

(Anonymous) 2018-09-26 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Why?

Avatar (the James Cameron one).

A ton of Tom Hanks movies (including Forest Gump) because he just doesn't grab me as an actor. I really liked him in A League of Their Own, but other than that... meh. Not to say I think he's a bad actor, I just don't ever seem to have any spark of interest in the movies he chooses.

the James Cameron Avatar bored me, I don't think you're missing anything there.

It just had so much hype, but from what I know of the plot it just seems like alien Pocahontas, which doesn't interest me at all.

I never saw Avatar because all the hype was around the 3D and I can't (for some reason) watch 3D movies without getting headaches.

All the new Star Wars movies. Honestly, I don't think I've seen all of the original trilogy either. Just parts. Never been something I enjoy.

I liked Star Wars when I was a kid but I don't care about it anymore so I didn't bother seeing any of the new ones.

I've only seen most of the Star Wars movies just because I've gone to see them with my husband. Otherwise I wouldn't have seen them.

Haven't seem and don't care about: Avatar, Pacific Rim, Infinity War, most of the X-men movies.

The only film I haven't seen that I want to see is Get Out,

Godfather Trilogy.

Don't want to. Not into Mafia stories and I don't really want to root for any of them.

Having seen the first two I don't think you're meant to root for any of those characters. Some people are really bothered by all the violence of course. I like them because the acting is excellent and I appreciate the drama but they're certainly not a relaxing watch.

ayrt

From I what I understand, you are definitely supposed to sympathize with and care about the Corleone family, so if you're not actively rooting for them, you're at least passively rooting for them, and that counts for me. Unless I've somehow missed that the point of the movies is to want to take the family down, get them all arrested, or have everyone in any of the families be in a bad place at the end to show that it's all bad.

"have everyone in any of the families be in a bad place at the end to show that it's all bad."
exactly.

I just realized that Godfather/Goodfellas/Scarface are not the same thing.

Same here, and it's one of those where people will look at me like I've grown a second head and shout "You've never seen THE GODFATHER!?!" I know. I'm a monster.

Lord of the Rings, bc I tried reading the books and couldn't get into them (I found them a boring sausage fest). Harry Potter, bc I wasn't the target audience. Most superhero and comic book movies, they're not my cuppa.

I couldn't get into the books either. I just started glazing over every time I tried to read them, because Tolkien was great at world building, but to me he just wandered off on a 100 tangents every other second and never came back from them.

I didn't read LOTR for those exact reasons (Well I read 1 + bits of 2), but I did find myself watching every movie somehow.

Couldn't tell you what happened.

Re: What popular movies have you never seen?

When I was little, my Mom read LotR to me as a bedtime story (not all at once, of course) and I spent most of the book thinking Merry was a girl named Mary. I was very disappointed to learn the hobbits were all boys.

Reading it as an adult, I got stalled out on the Tom Bombadil part and after letting it sit on the shelf for a year, I finished it (and liked it!) by skipping over the Bombadil scene.

Rocky. Just no interest.

Most of the MCU movies. I'm just not big into superheroes at all. I forced myself to watch the Avengers and fell asleep towards the end. They're just not my thing.

Inception. Just never got around to it.

The new Spider-man movie. He's never really been one of my favourite characters, and for fuck's sake this is the third movie series about him within fifteen years, that's just excessive.

Titanic. Because it looked stupid.

Anything by Quentin Tarantino. Because I have limits in my ability to stomach violence but I'll admit that this point it's kind of become a thing with me to not watch any of them.

Pirates of the Caribbean because I got on the "I don't like Johnny Depp" bandwagon early.

The Nightmare Before Christmas for really no damn reason. One of these days I'll watch it.
