In some cases, yes. In others, no.

Do kids who play violent videogames become hardened criminals? How about people who watch horror movies? Did The Godfather recruit for the mob? Casino? The Sopranos? Do you actually believe that ANYONE who posts Joker-boning secrets here would do ANYTHING but run screaming from a guy like that in real life?

You can shoot up whole cities in videogames without getting arrested, you can watch mafia films 5 days a week worshipping Al Pacino on your knees and not go whack anyone, you can want to sex up as many Jokers and kawaii-desu-whatevers and catgirls and Harry Potters in the world without looking for them in dark alleys or hiring whores to play pretend or waving sticks in case they're magic... why can't I dislike imaginary women? How is that ANY different?

People *do* get something out of playing hardened criminals in video games, or watching horror movies, or getting into the Godfather. No, they don't necessarily want to re-enact these things in real life but they get something out of the fictional "safe" version.

So what does one get out of disliking female characters for being female? It's one thing to just not happen to like too many female characters that you've read so far, but to have an actual rule that you dislike characters because they are female...could you maybe explain why it is the way somebody could probably explain why they like the fictional mafia or horror movies? There are tons of female characters who are all different from each other except their gender, so what is it about the gender in fiction that you like getting a "safe" place to hate?
