I don't know about 'best' but they're good movies. Maybe they're too Raimi-esque, he's definitely not to everyone's taste.

I remember thinking that some of the stuff with the villains seemed more appropriate for a horror movie than a superhero movie.

No one says that, man. No one

Bullshit. I know a TON of people who think Toby Spiderman is the best Spiderman.

That's different than thinking these movies are the best Spider-Man movies.

Tons of people think Spider-Man 2 is the best. This isn't a rare opinion.

I do. Well, the MCU movie was better. But these are far, far superior in every way to the Amazing Spiderman movies.

The second one is probably one of my favourite superhero films.

I'm not sure if it would be one of the best Spider-Man adaptions but as an overall superhero flick I enjoy it even now.

I do think Tom Holland has blended both aspects of the role better than previous attempts though and he's probably my favourite live-action Spider-Man.

EDIT: Also it's universally accepted even among the most hardcore defenders of those films that Spider-Man 3 sucked. Far too much going on in it.

I had a blast watching 3 though. The nervous and confused laughter of a packed opening night through Peter's dancing emo montage I will never forget.

Maybe I'm just not a big enough Spidey fan to "get" it, but I thought they were pretty mediocre.

Spider-Man 2 is miles above Homecoming. Nothing to do with nostalgia goggles. Besides Michael Keaton Homecoming was mid-tier MCU.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who loved Homecoming and thinks Tom Holland is the best Peter Parker, I agree it wasn't better than Spider-Man 2.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-05 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed on all counts.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-05 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Homecoming was relentlessly charming but ultimately flimsy

Spiderman-2 was excruciatingly earnest but had the substance and craft to back it up and not a speck of shame about being the most sincere version of itself it could be

I enjoyed Homecoming a ton in the theater but I barely remember anything about it. the raimi movies are pretty much richard donner superman tier - they aren't hip to 2010s trends of pop sizzle flash or gritty drama or whatever but they're solid all the way through and they made mainstream audiences love superheroes

I figure most people who said that were comparing them to the Andrew Garfield movies (which I never saw so I can't make that comparison myself) and those comments pre-date MCU Spiderman (whom I've only seen in Infinity War).

Probably some nostalgia going on, too.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... maybe you're just watching the movies through the brownest of shit-colored glasses. Maybe you already decided that nothing could be better than the current MCU.

For the record, I have issues with the movies myself (mostly Kirsten Dunst's acting) but 1 & 2 come together quite nicely. It's the third one that brings down the average. Even one fewer villain would have improved the movie considerably.

Spider-Man 2 is the best superhero movie. Stay mad OP

(Anonymous) 2018-10-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I agree OP
Very overrated films

Okay, but I think some people would beg to differ.

You seem very confused, OP. "Anyone who says that these (especially the first two) are the best" What's this with "Especially the first two"? You're thinking that the third one is better than the first two? Methinks you're the one who should get your glasses prescription looked at.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-05 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think they're describing what people say: "these (especially the first two) are the best". As opposed to saying that people who say the first two are the best are especially wrong.

Which makes sense, because "the first two are the best" is in fact what people say.

Yeah I don’t get the love either. But then I can’t stand Tobey Maguire and wasn’t fond of Kirsten Dunst’s MJ either. I’d probably like them a lot more with a different set of lead actors.
