Thanksgiving is better than Halloween on all fronts, especially food wise.

Thanksgiving and Halloween are by far the 2 best holidays of the year and there's nothing between the two of them as far as overall quality goes

(Thanksgiving's not a real holiday in except I get work off tomorrow because of it, woo)

My eight-year-old self disagrees. My current Olde self agrees completely.

Nope. Halloween is my favorite. Halloween even beats out Christmas.

Halloween and Thanksgiving both beat out Xmas.

There's no John Carpenter movie called Thanksgiving so I'm sorry to say that you're not correct

I enjoy both holidays, but Halloween is more fun as a kid. As a grown up, I still dress up, but instead of trick or treating with my friends, I sit in the dark watching It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and eating the candy meant for trick or treaters. Whereas for Thanksgivibg, I get to hang out with my family, eat good food, and have lots of leftovers to take home.

I'm Australian. Halloween is at least entertaining - Thanksgiving is dull revisionism, turkey is dry and bland, and pumpkin gets boring very quickly.

The political-historical aspects of Thanksgiving aren't just revisionist in their understanding of history; they're also revisionist in their understanding of Thanksgiving, which doesn't have any intrinsic link to the settling of America or pilgrims and Indians or anything like that.

Turkey is great if you cook it right but admittedly hard to cook right. The real stars of Thanksgiving meals are gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and other sides. The sides are where it's at.

Do you have jellied cranberry sauce that comes out in the shape of a can? Because if not, then that might be your problem.

Eh, I like that Halloween doesn’t place a big emphasis on family because almost all of mine is dead. Also if I want a traditionalish Thanksgiving meal I have to cook it myself because my two living relatives aren’t vegetarians.

One of the best parts of my brother getting a divorce was not having to suffer through Thanksgiving anymore (or his wife's terrible cooking), since Thanksgiving had never been a thing in our family before her, nor since.

There's definitely a bigger variety of food. We should just add a big feast tradition to Halloween and get rid of the whole hypocrisy of Thanksgiving!

(Anonymous) 2018-10-08 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Food wise, sure. But I'd much rather get rid of Thanksgiving than Halloween.

I'm not a fan of turkey. And for everyone who says "but the sides!" Yeah, most of them are fine, though someone else can have my share of that awful sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top. I just don't see why we need to eat something as bland as turkey.
