Blasphemy! Nothing will ever top this version.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-09 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed!

(I mean, it's Disney. It'll happen. They're doing live-action for everything else. But this Robin Hood was one of my childhood faves.)

Not top it, but geez, can we have a decent live action version that comes closer to being this good?

this makes me think about this video i watched a few weeks ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdR_GU3Hi9U

which pretty much argues that the last good Robin Hood thing was either the Disney movie or Men in Tights, bc everyone since then has been so eager to ~transform~ it that it's just not really Robin Hood anymore (and the same has happened with King Arthur)

ANYWAY i absolutely agree. I love Robin Hood and I want something that actually feels like Robin Hood again, that's fun to watch with a Robin that's charming and charismatic. It's time >:|

Have you ever seen the 1930s version starring Errol Flynn? I think it's called "The Adventures of Robin Hood"

I feel like tonally, it's probably closest to the animated version in that it's pretty clear-cut good vs. evil, derring do with charisma, good action, and humor--unlike the Costner & Crowe versions which seemed to want to angst up a story that shouldn't be.

Not OP, but I have seen that version and I agree with you.

Uh... His family dies and he loses his home. He gets outlawed. His sweetheart is assaulted and kidnapped the authority. He and his gang of outlaw friends are harassed and persecuted until they die, one by one. Then he himself dies by treason. Happy times!

Have you seen all the live action Robin Hoods? I mean, I haven't, but just saying.

Yesss. Though for that I think they would need to take it less seriously.

YES PLEASE! I really liked the BBC Robin Hood series, with Herne the hunter and all, but still - it would be nice if they could do a live action RH that wasn't really weird or angsty or over-the-top actiony.

well, dang. That brings up memories I'd entirely forgotten for years. Best music for that series, hands down. I think I had the tape for the TV soundtrack at some point - which is telling how long ago it was.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS.
That Robin was so...damn...hunky.....

And i really loved the pagan aspects and just the overall show. Good stuff!

It's a toss-up between this version and Robin of Sherwood (with its overt paganism and Clannad-written background music).

I love them both for different reasons.

I am also cranky I can't afford the action figure/dolls Disney put out of Robin and Marian. They're so cute! They're so out of my price range!

NGL, that fox is a really hard act to follow.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, no! The horror! Just the thought... Disney ruins everything.

I adore Men in Tights, but I feel like Cary Elwes was born to play Robin Hood in a more straight-forward retelling that took itself a bit more seriously while still having fun and whimsy.

His Robin Hood is just as iconic to me as Brian Bedford's animated portrayal and Errol Flynn's classic one.

Shame he's too old now even if such a film were in the works...
