Have you ever seen the 1930s version starring Errol Flynn? I think it's called "The Adventures of Robin Hood"

I feel like tonally, it's probably closest to the animated version in that it's pretty clear-cut good vs. evil, derring do with charisma, good action, and humor--unlike the Costner & Crowe versions which seemed to want to angst up a story that shouldn't be.

Uh... His family dies and he loses his home. He gets outlawed. His sweetheart is assaulted and kidnapped the authority. He and his gang of outlaw friends are harassed and persecuted until they die, one by one. Then he himself dies by treason. Happy times!
