#PocahontasExisted

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And that's about as historically accurate as the movie gets

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
As is the case with Anastasia.
(And Mulan, btw.)

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Weeellllll

Kind of, yeah

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Just like Anastasia!

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think most of Anastasia's inaccuracies fall into one of two categories: either the unrealistic cartoonism and magic and musical-style singing, or the idea that the central character actually was Anastasia as claimed and not a pretender.

Whereas Pocahontas' whole setup and narrative is just... nonsense

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, the unrealistic cartoonism and magic made a right royal muck-up of the depiction of the Russian revolution. So there was that. Ignoring everything about the actual revolution and its causes in favour of 'undead sorceror casts a curse and the palace falls in a night' is a bit nonsense as well.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think it's generally hard to tease out the difference between historical inaccuracy and genre convention

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Given what we do know about what actually happened to the royal family, I'd put it at a liiittle closer to Pocahontas nonsense than you seem to.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-10 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact that all of them died? That's what I was referring to with the fact that Anastasia was a pretender rather than actually Anastasia. And even then, there actually were such pretenders (at least IIRC).

Hah! Yeah, correction accepted, obviously, but I think my argument still somewhat stands given how my brain cast over its vague knowledge of the Disney princess canon and was like 'yes there is literally no historical accuracy to be found here alexa post comment'.

Sorry, Pocahontas, we all did you wrong.
