Inspired by 3

If you woke up tomorrow and your life was transformed into something wonderful, what would that look like?

For the sake of argument, let's limit this to changes that are possible in reality, i.e. no magic or being gifted the ability to fly, stuff like that.

An apartment in a walkable city to a job that I enjoy working at.

Ditto this.
Wonderful idea.

*a job that I enjoy working at and which provides enough money to pay for my needs and occasional treats, as well as time off for me to travel.

I'd have way more money. I don't know how...won the lottery? Money would fix 99% of my problems. I'd be living someplace like Colorado with my family.

I hear you. Money would fix like 99% of my problems, too. And they'd make the remainder a hell of a lot easier to manage.

This. Money would literally fix 98 percent of my problems and totally make the other 2 percent bearable. Lottery, FTW!!

I'd be moving to a nice house somewhere near my brothers that had room for my mom so I could be with her for as long as she's going to live (which could be a decade, who knows, but - i miss her and want to take care of her. She lives in another state with my sister.).

A big enough win would let me help all my friends/family that are hurting, too, which would make it all a million times better.

I would be rich. Sadly in my case money would buy a lot of my happiness by erasing some anxieties and helping with my health to the point where I could live a happier life so, cash it is.

I’d have won a couple hundred million in the lotto. Most of the current US presidential administration, their supporters in the House and Senate, and people appointed on their watch would all have suffered debilitating strokes, or lightning strikes, or been hit by cargo falling out of airplanes passing overhead. Also my next medical checkup would show nothing physically amiss. No magic required for any of it, but pretty damn improbable.

Re: Inspired by 3

Oh, also everyone disenfranchised (for things other than, say, murder and rape) under this and previous administrations would be registered to vote. Every US citizen age 18 (or hey lets go with 16) or over who wanted to would be registered to vote and allowed to do so without harassment or barriers. Interference and outside attempts to influence the election process would stop dead.

Atmospheric CO2 would drop to preindustrial levels. CEOs and board members of Fortune 500 companies would wake up with the detritus and pollutants they normally unload into the air and neighborhoods of poor people instead littering and flooding their mansions and vacation homes. Poachers and people who use endangered and threatened animals as medicine or parlor decorations would wake up with painful neon green warts everywhere.

People to be friends with and a girlfriend.

I'd have my hair and my teeth back, the rest of my body would not be jacked up. I'd have significantly reduced stress, a changed name, complete separation from my abuser (as in legally and financially speaking). I'd live in a good place that isn't prone to horrifically damaging weather events. I'd have a career I love that I could actually support myself in (or just win the goddamn lottery anonymously, I dunno). I'd have a decent amount of good friends/family or at least feel like I did. I'd be fuckloads braver, maybe, and have a nice bed and some awesome pets.

I'd wake up with millions of dollars in my bank account and a high performing stock portfolio. My health problems would be cured. The house would be sparkling clean. An amazing new sushi bar would've just opened in my town. I'd be filled with a sense of peace and purpose that fuels my creativity so I could write.

the basement would no longer leak, the yard would be clean with beautiful patches of native prairie exactly where I want them, I would be down 30 pounds and up $5million.

funny how none of these transformed lives would be magically better with merely a chintz couch and pretty tea set, isn't it?

To be fair, the transformation in the book was more than just interior decorating. It was providing a delicious meal to two girls who didn't get enough food, and warm bedding for a girl who was cold at night and lacked warm clothes and blankets. The decorations might be the least of what happened, but they created a magical moment for two children who badly needed it. Food for the soul, as it were.

I would have enough for me and my brother to not worry about financial issues. My mom would be 100% healthy again and I'd be in Colorado with family anyway and my boyfriend would be able to come up and we could sign the papers and elope.

Also my friends would have happier home situations and accesses to whatever help they may need.

Pretty much the same, but I have a large amount of money in my bank account, I never have to talk to the unemployment office ever again, and I can send my dad to see more specialists than the one he's seeing (who is a good bloke, but won't consider a knee replacement until my dad can no longer walk at all).

Re: Inspired by 3

Everything wrong with my house would be fixed, the dying tree would be cut down, the garage razed and re-built, and the yard re-landscaped for better drainage and a patio added. Also, my aging car would be replaced with a new one. It would be nice if my house were paid off, too.

Re: Inspired by 3

(Anonymous) 2018-10-14 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, none of the trees in my yard are dying, but I wish I wasn’t so clutzy and terrified of chainsaws. The fruit trees I planted are fine but the trees that came with the house are mostly huge, still growing, messy non native stuff that shade out parts of the yard I’d like for veggies and fruit and flowers. But so much of the house needs fixing and I make so little that tree trimming and removal are almost at the bottom of my list.

Ever thought of cutting down the tree for firewood to sell? Or are you not in an area with a bunch of fire starters.

I already answered, but I didn’t say anything about having friends or a significant other because having either of those in a day feels like magical cheating in a way “suddenly rich” doesn’t. And I’d like to be healthier and lose weight, but if I lost more than a couple pounds in a day it’d probably mean losing a limb or something.

It's a shame you specified that the changes have to be realistically possible, otherwise I'd've said that I'd be healthy and pain-free. Ah, well.

I'd have a cozy little cottage by the sea, somewhere far enough to the north that I'd get to experience what a real autumn is like. I'd be far enough from the beach that I could have a small patch of land on which to keep chickens, ducks and goats on, but close enough that I could easily walk to and from the shoreline on a well-lit path. There's at least an acre's worth of space between me and my closest neighbors, and the neighborhood has a sidewalk and is full of kind, easy-going people. The town has good public transportation, great libraries and bookstores, and the doctors in the area are sympathetic, understanding, good listeners and will always seek to do right by their patients. I'd be financially stable and able to focus on writing. There would be a handicapped-accessible stable nearby where I could go and ride and possibly even board a horse there if I ever healed enough from losing Sharif to feel able to buy one.
