if my character gets stuck say behind a box or something and just doesn't seem to be able to jump, fight its way out and swapping characters doesn't help...is my whole level lost to me? sob

Probably. I've only ever played one Lego game but that was exactly what happened to me in Lego City Undercover.

I love the lego games and own nearly all of them, and yeah there's no getting unstuck. You just have to restart. The worst part is when you get a character trapped in an infinite death loop.
